Here's what I know about Chartres:
Location: 50miles southwest of Paris. (About 1 hour by train)
Map
Population : 42,000 (Slightly larger, and much classier, than Lima, OH)
In the "breadbasket" of France. Once a prominent market, this region still produces the vast majority of wheat and grains in France. Can we say fresh baked goods?
Famous for: Le Cathedrale de Notre Dame de Chartres - The best gothic cathedral in Europe, it is especially famous for its amazing stained glass windows, a tradition that continues today. Chartres is home to the International Stained-Glass center; a museum and workshop in the city.
Other: The city was one of France's first urban preservation sites, there are still a great number of half-timbered houses and cobblestone roads in Chartres. The Eure River also runs straight through the middle of town before branching three ways. The city is filled with bridges, some ancient, and steep stairways that lead down to the incredibly picturesque river bank.
So that's the skinny on the city I'll be living in (I think...). More to come when I know.
And for your more visual people...

I feel like a sitting duck these days. Friends and family ask me a bunch of questions and all I can say at this time is "Je ne sais pas" and practice my French shoulder shrug.
