End of Toussaint

Vacation is officially over. Tomorrow, Thursday, I go back to work. But it's my only day for this week since I don't have any classes on Fridays. It's rough, I know. In honor of my going back to the daily French grind and the rest of the country coming out of Toussaint Coma, I offer you this list.

You Know You've Been In France Too Long When:

1. You respond to questions by shrugging your shoulders and blowing a raspberry.
2. You panic when you can't find a machine to composter your billet.
3. You are surprised when shops are open over lunch...
4. ...or for more than 3 days a week
5. You realize that "qnything you type looks polish becquse ;ost of the keys on the keyboqrd qre in the zrong plqce".
6. You find yourself grumbling about the quality of bread and you refuse to buy baguettes at certain places.
7. You fully accept the lack of a concept known as "customer service".
8. You think a two-hour lunch break is normal.
9. You begin confusing Nutella and peanut butter.
10. You can't... oh crap, what's that word again in English?
11. You answer to the Frenchified version of your name and not the English. (Donnah v. Dana)
12. You get crepe cravings.
13. It's the gravest insult if someone is saying cheers without eye contact.
14. You try to speak to anyone and everyone in a vain attempt to practice your French.
15. Appoinments and deadlines (other than transportation-related issues) become suggestions instead of mandatory things.

I love your list! So true! Can I add?
-Saturday marches are the only reason to get up early on a Saturday morning.
-Thank goodness for the Magrebienne/Turkish population and their delicious kebabs.

Hi! You left a comment on my livejournal about Aix-en-Provence. I studied in Aix last fall. I remember people in the program meeting up with students from Grenoble... unfortunately I had class or something that day. I don't remember what it was, but I remember being disappointed that I couldn't go.

I definitely recommend visiting Aix! I'm a little biased as it's like my second home, but it really is a pretty town. You probably wouldn't need more than a few days to do the major things in the town. If you need any recs, let me know!

Also, I love your list! It is so so true!

Our vacation wasn't long enough! I'm already looking forward to the Christmas holidays. I have to say....I hate my job. I don't want to be displeased with it though, I hope in a few months it will be less disagreeable.

Ahhh- glad to see your aquiescing (sp?) well. I can relate a little, but I´m a bit further behind in the Latin-American world than you are in France. Your adventures look awesome. Godspeed in all your travels and teaching, too.
