Someone asked me today what I was missing about American culture. I love living in France, but there are some American things that I do miss...
1) Peanut Butter - Nutella is awesome, but you can't really make a nutella and jelly sandwich.
2) Macho men - French men are very romantic. Sensitive and communicative and chivalrous and all that, but if I see one more guy in a pair of jeans tighter than anything I've ever owned, I think I'll scream. When I get back to the States I feel like a trip to Montana to see a lumberjack wearing flannel with lots of chest hair might be in order. It's as if the entire country suffers a lack of testosterone.
3) Stores being open on Sundays - France closes down on Sundays. Grocery stores, malls, restaurants, NOTHING is open on Sundays. It's supposed to be a day to spend with your family, but when your family is a few thousand miles away it just rubs the fact in.
4) Farenheit, Feet, Miles, Cups, etc - I'm terrible at math. Always have been. Doing the currency exchange rate in my head often gives me a headache. So you ask me to convert everything for daily life and I just can't handle it. I've already saved several websites in my "Favorites" for converting kitchen measurements, temperature, currency, distance, and everything else.
5) My family and friends - That's pretty obvious I guess, but even as much as I like it here, it will be even nicer to get home and be closer to them again.
Have a great weekend!
