So I realize it's only Wednesday and I'm probably about to jinx it, but short of a HUGE natural disaster or MAJOR medical issue, nothing can ruin this week.
Monday I was on my quick 20 minute break when I got a call from a woman at a tutoring company. She wanted to know if I could come for an interview... that day... right after school. So I went. And she wanted to conduct it all in French (which I thought was odd for someone who wanted to hire me to speak English). And I did it! Not only did I do it, but I did it well!! I never once got that look... you know, when you say something in a foreign language and then someone gives you a look like you've grown a third eye. And that's when you know you've made a grammar or pronunciation faute bad enough to make them wish you were dead. But back on track... she asked me to observe/help teach some other classes this week and then she'd make a final decision about hiring me.
Then Monday night I got a phone call from a girl who had seen my tutoring sign up in town and she and three friends want to get lessons! That's 4 people which means meeting a lot more people (and making a lot more money!).
So Tuesday night I went to a lesson with an AMAZING tutor. In both teaching and personality she's one of the most interesting people I've ever met. I really like her. And I loved teaching adults. Having adult conversations and laughing and being laid back and not holding up flashcards. It's amazing.
Then late last night I got paid! One day before the end of the month and I had my paycheck. WHEW!!
So I went to another class this morning to observe another great tutor and student. While I was there the boss gave me a schedule for "my classes" and I start next week!! I got the job!! went After that I went to Carrefour with Danielle to buy groceries for the first time in three weeks. Which was the best thing ever since I'd started to ration food for myself as if I were stranded on a desert island. When I got home from the grocery store I checked online for the CAF (housing welfare) and they've finally worked out my paperwork and I'm getting 30euro more than I had even hoped for!
So all in all... I've been here over more than four months and things are FINALLY starting to work! YAY for me and yay for France!!!

A raise! Wow - if you ever get another paycheck, it will be bigger than this one that took how many weeks to get? Congrats on the job - I knew you'd get it!! Working w/adults might make dealing w/kids even harder tho....you know those kids love ya, tho. Glad it's such a great week LY m
yay you got caf! twin laws state that means mine should be worked out soon too . . .
that's great about the tutoring, is it with a company? i have lots of private students, and i love working with adults, it's so much more satisfying intellectually, and they actually RETAIN the things i teach them, lol.
but nothing beats a 10 year old telling me "English is my favorite class" :-) success!
hey just another English assistant out here who can sympathize :)
It was a really good feeling to finally get paid yesterday... haha good luck with all your teaching endeavors!
Good luck with the new job, sounds good! I too am tired of holding up flashcards! x
WOW!! That's AWESOME!! So glad to hear things are working out for you... it makes a difference when you tutor just a student or two rather than full classes of young kids... You will LOVE IT, I'm sure!! Good for you.. and YAY!! The announce for English lessons worked quickly... remember word of mouth is sooo important, I had 6 students last year and now I am up to 19! I am still amazed. I really love it!! Anyhow.. take care and good luck with your new job and lessons... Take care, Leesa
