Week Two

School vacations in France are two weeks long. After my first week in Eastern Europe I came back to some great visitors.
First was An American Blonde. She's another primary English assistant and we've been reading each other's blogs all year and decided it was a good excuse to meet that she wanted to come to Chartres. It was a really great, albeit short, visit. A few moments after she had gotten off the train it was like we'd been friends since 5th grade. We spent the first evening trying out our cooking skills. Those were good, but our baking skills were a bit lacking. Instead of making brownies as we had planned we ended up with a chocolate quiche. Somehow that didn't stop us from eating most of it though.Saturday we walked around town just generally enjoyed the town in all it's small glory. After Blonde left on Monday I had a few days to myself and then ONU friend came. She just finished two years at a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal. On her way home to the United States she made a stop over in France to visit me and see the sights. We did another tour of the town, went to the Saturday fresh market, looked at Chartres en Lumiere (where they light up, with moving and sound orchestrated light shows, the most famous sights in town... all 4 of them), went to mass at the cathedral on Sunday and then went to a Loire Valley wine tasting festival where we enjoyed a large sampling of fabulous regional wine. Overall it was a great visit. And both visits were a great way to end my vacation.
